Carnival Legend lives up to her Fun Ship name

Ship Review by Jackie Roseboom, June 2010

The museum quality artwork on the Carnival Legend depicts legendary stories through the years, hence the ship’s name. The ship’s activities and ports will definitely keep you as busy as you want to be.

If you have time, walk around the ship to see all the different historic tales represented. Many areas of the ship feature different kinds of legends. In one area you’ll find a gold painted fresco of the Trojan Horse. In another there’s a large photo of legendary movie stars. The nine-deck-high Colossus Atrium is dominated by a towering mural of the Colossus of Rhodes (dubbed the Statue of Liberty’s husband by some kids onboard).

Eighty percent of the cabins have an ocean view. All include large closets, plenty of drawer space and a mini-bar, which can double as a refrigerator. The cabins are tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

There are 16 bars and lounges onboard the Legend. Follies is the main show lounge and is decorated like a Tuscan villa. It’s very whimsical. As you walk towards the showroom, the decor on the walls envelops you and gives you an “at home” feeling.

Legend’s dining options should please everyone. Truffles Restaurant is the main dining room with different items on the menu each night. If you have special dietary needs, the Legend has a wonderful chef that can customize your meals.

The Golden Fleece steakhouse is an extra $30 per person, but it is well worth it. It makes for a memorable evening. You should try it at least one night of your trip. The Unicorn Cafe (On the Lido deck) has many different stations that serve buffet style meals including coffee, tea and ice cream. There’s also a 24 hour pizza bar.

The Fountain of Youth Spa is located on two-levels — the forward sections of the Lido and Sun Deck. The gym is well equipped offers ocean views. Adjacent to the workout area is a mirrored aerobics room that is used mostly for classes. Some classes have an additional fee, so check prior to signing up. The spa offers many treatments including aroma stone therapy, full body and scalp massages, seaweed wraps, mudpacks and various slimming and toning therapies. There are 10 treatment rooms. The men and women’s locker facilities have wet and dry saunas. A full-service beauty salon has all you’ll need for your hair, nails and makeup.

Onboard pools include the Camelot Forward Pool, Avalon Midship Pool, Unicorn Aft Pool (for adults only), and each has a whirlpool. The kids and adults can take turns on the three-deck-high Twister Waterslide.

Camp Carnival on deck five is for the 2- to 11-year-old children. The kids are separated by ages inside Noah’s Ark playroom. Circle C is for the 12- to 14-year-old kids and teens 15- to 17-years-old can enjoy their own fun in Club O2.

The Carnival Legend offers just what you’d expect from one of the Fun Ships. She sails out of Tampa to Western Caribbean ports through 2010 and most of 2011.
